Sentences: Where Great Reading Begins!

It all starts with the sentence. Sentences are how English-Speaking folk communicate. When we speak in conversation or write on less formal outlets are sentence are not always complete. BUT, when we read academic and professional writings, the sentences are always complete and always written according to a single set of rules. These rules are collectively known as Grammar and they are the absolute worst nemesis of most school-age children. Grammar also happens to provide the only truly effective code for How To Read, so if you want to improve you reading, we have to nail this stuff down, once and for all. No exceptions, no negotiations. And, with Read It Write!, it's not as bad as sounds either! 

Knowing how to quickly break down a sentence to find its main thought is literally half of the reading the battle. We must know our parts of speech, punctuation and sentence structure. Then we must learn how to use these parts. In other words, once we learn the parts of a sentence, we then learn the effective strategies for using those parts to break down the sentence for its meaning. Ultimately, the Read It Write! program teaches us that every sentence boils down to 'Somebody doing Something'. Sometimes this is simple to find and understand, often times though, sentences are loaded with so much detail, this becomes impossible to find. THIS is what causes the problems for so many readers.
